Grants

Furthering Goals and Enriching Lives

Our grantmaking procedures vary depending on how each of the more than 200 affiliate funds are set up. However, we follow a basic set of grantmaking guidelines when reviewing applications. The Foundation’s Distribution Committee and Board of Trustees oversee all grantmaking activity to ensure the funds entrusted to us are used for the betterment of the community.

Before you apply for a grant, find out if your organization is eligible by filling out our pre-application form. Just fill it out and submit it online and we’ll contact you as soon as we review your information.

The Foundation awards grants to Summit County, Ohio nonprofit tax-exempt organizations or to qualified organizations that provide important services to Summit County residents. To be eligible for funding, organizations must have been determined by the IRS to be 501 (c)(3), 509 (a) public charities. The Foundation looks favorably on programs that collaborate to offer new approaches to improving the quality of life in Summit County.

Only one grant from the Foundation’s Community Fund can be awarded to your organization per fiscal year, which runs April 1 through March 31. Grants are awarded to programs in the following categories:

To apply for a grant, you must fill to out a basic grant application and cover sheet, which the Foundation will provide once your eligibility is approved. We also offer tips for making your application process easier.

Grants are also available in the form of academic scholarships. Specific scholarship criteria exist for each award. You can also start a scholarship fund yourself. For more information, contact us.
