Reinvesting in Our Community

Two of the foundation’s donor-advised funds supported the Cuyahoga Valley Preservation and Scenic Railway this year. The John A. McAlonan Fund provided a grant for track maintenance while the Knight Foundation Fund provided funding for general support. The historic railroad offers day trips for groups such as the East Akron Community House, which offers programming for children.

Akron Community Foundation’s special-focus funds are important to enriching the lives of people within the diverse groups in the greater Akron community. The funds are permanent endowments from which grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that concentrate on specific fields of interest.

Here you can get information about these funds, which are all affiliates of Akron Community Foundation. From the Millennium Fund for Children to the Odom Fund for minorities to the Women's Endowment funds in both Summit and Medina counties, our famiy of funds helps strengthen the Foundation’s permanent endowment and the community as a whole.

Our fund, the Akron Community Foundation Community Fund, is important to the community because it derives flexibility from its unrestricted nature. The Foundation can draw from this fund to respond to the changing needs of the community in the areas of:
